What's Being Said
“The TalkSense workshop taught me to see my child's meltdowns in context of his autism. This helped me to understand his frustrations and my own and I was then able to help my child. ”
“The TalkSense workshop gave us a lot of information, maybe far too much to digest in one day. However, the changes we made with our little girl have made a big difference. Tanya and Helen took good care of us and we learned from the other parents on that day. Looking forward to the next workshop.”

“You helped us understand our boy's behaviour and the ways in which play helps him to learn all sorts of stuff. We feel we can explain his condition better now to his teachers and his SNA.
Thank you, TalkSense, for believing in us and pushing us forward and giving us back our confidence as parents.”

Helen Ruane is a Speech & Language Therapist with over 35 years of experience working with children and families in the UK, in the HSE, the Charity sector and in independent practice. Helen has significant experience in the areas of speech and language disorder, developmental delay, dyspraxia, reading difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, child and adolescent mental health. She runs a successful private practice, working with children, adolescents and young adults. She has contributed to student education and delivered numerous training programmes to teachers and parents throughout her career. As a parent, she has witnessed huge changes in all areas of health, education and social environment and how these changes influence the pace of family life. She is a powerful advocate for children and their families and believes completely in client-centred care where the client, the family, school and the wider environment are all considered in the intervention plan. She has significant postgraduate training in Speech & Language Therapy and has recently completed a degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Tanya McGarry is an Occupational Therapist who has worked with amazing children and families for over 15 years. Tanya has run a successful private practice, including individual client work and direct intervention into several schools. She has collaborated with parent organizations such as the Dyspraxia Association and has delivered numerous training events and opportunities. Tanya currently works part time in the University of Limerick. This has enabled her to develop skills in teaching, programme content and delivery and the development of purpose specific resources. This has also enabled her to keep abreast of current research and forge links with clinicians throughout the country. Tanya has immersed herself in understanding the children and has completed significant post graduate training in specific disorders, interventions, theories and practice. Yet her experience in the face to face therapy sessions confirms her belief that she learns the most from really ‘seeing’ and ‘hearing’ the children themselves without limiting them through the lens of a diagnosis. Her practice has now evolved into one that no longer adopts an expert approach but collaborates with the child and the family unit. The results of this shift, combined with working collaboratively with colleagues has been profound resulting in huge changes in children with less clinical intervention. Tanya has witnessed how empowering parents to flourish can enable their children. Tanya is now a parent herself and she understands the dizzying sea of information that is available, she believes the persistent challenge is to find the guidance in navigating, implementing and understanding this information.
